After Huntington Library, we picked up some vietnamese sandwiches as a snack. On our way back home we decided to stop by the Hawaii Supermarket (which I think has very little to do with Hawaii). There we saw live shrimp for $2.99/lb which is normally $14.99/lb in Chicago. Live shrimp isn't always available so we just couldn't pass it up. I think this is the first I've ever seen shrimp swimming in a tank and not frozen in a box. They jump!
Mama and Papa Zhao bought a pound and a half for us and boiled it at home, served with a guilum spicy sauce and soy sauce combo. And then made us eat it all... by ourselves... just the two of us. OMG, it was so fresh and delicious and we knew it wouldn't be any good if we didn't eat it right way so... we... had... to... do... it. I was absolutely stuffed.
By the way, this was around 5pm. We also had massive dinner plans with the rest of the family at 7:30pm back at New Capital and needless to say we could barely eat anything at dinner even though we were presented with 12 platters of mouthwatering food. I had to hold myself back from vomiting in front of the entire extended Zhao family that I was meeting for the very first time. Traveling and eating is a tough job. But somebody's gotta do it!
