Los Angeles: MPV BBQ Seafood Restaurant / by Alice Zhao

After we picked out the crab and dropped it back at home, we headed over to MPV BBQ Seafood Restaurant for some good Cantonese food. So the thing about the Rosemead/Alhambra/Monterey Park area is that it is JAM PACKED full of asian restaurants. You can get by without knowing any English there. Therefore, you know it has to be authentic! No frills, no fuss, just cheap authentic asian food. SCORE. Jared ate at this restaurant the last time he was out here and has been telling me about it ever since.

Whole Fried FishJared's favorite $3.99 whole fried fish. Yeah, you heard me right. $3.99
Also, this isn't for people who hate spitting out bones. If you can handle it, it is so worth it. (Oh and Eugene from Top Chef, you don't need balls to fry a whole fish. People do it all the time. Get over yourself)

Spicy Stir-fried Green Beans with Beef (probably more of a szechuan style dish)

Soy Sauce Chicken

Pan Fried Wide Rice Noodles with Beef

In this area, the competition is so high that most restaurants are always trying to lure you into their place by offering you a free fancy dish if you hit a certain mininum. Here they offer you a free shrimp dish for any order of $20. There were four of us dining there, we ordered 4 dishes and it STILL didn't add up to $20. That's how cheap it is out there. The chinese frugality in us tried to rationalize getting another dish to get the free shrimp, but that would mean eating 6 dishes altogether! In the end, we had to restrain ourselves. Ha! Seriously, you can't beat these prices-- well maybe if you traveled to China yourself.
