Ok so the ramen didn’t take us back to Japan the way we would have liked it to, but we stumbled upon Yakitoriya (grilled chicken house) in Little Osaka and THIS WAS IT. This is the meal we really had been waiting for. We truly felt like we were back at the little restaurant in Kyoto 2 years ago… I’ll just stop talking and show you the pictures.

Every good meal starts with Asahi Soo-pah Doo-rai (Super Dry)

Grill Master

Yakitoriya YakitoriOur spread in order of appearance (all chicken):
Breast, Meatball, Teriyaki Thigh, Wing, Gizzard, Fried Chicken, Thigh and Green Onion
(missing is a picture of grilled chicken skin. oh delicious fatty skin, get in my belly!)

For the last 4 years, Jared and I have been dreaming about opening up a restaurant much like Yakitoriya. A modest with honest flavors. Most yakitori is just flavored with salt and pepper, but the secret is in the bincho charcoal. It’s like crack. I wouldn’t even care if it caused cancer, I’d still eat this. Forget sushi (though I really do love sushi), we’re more into the food served at izakaya’s (Japanese pubs). I’m sure there are so many other places like this in Los Angeles, but this is all we really needed. Until the next trip to Japan, we will never forget this place! THANK YOU!!!

Thanks Yukie! So you want me to open a Beard Papa and an izakaya place in Chicago. Maybe when we get rich from our photos, we can use that as venture capital to open up these restaurants. Until then, you can come over and I can make you yakitori and Alice can get some cream puffs from Costco. =)
